“Poetry is emotion put into measure. The emotion must come by nature, but the measure can be acquired by art.” — Thomas Hardy, as quoted in The Later Years of Thomas Hardy by Florence Hardy.
Six young people from the banks of river Ganga started a small literary club called ‘Arz Hai’ in 2017, to promote the local poets and writers in their city with the vision to expand it to different cities. I happen to be one of those six young people. Presently, Arz hai works in Bhopal, Kanpur, Pune, Varanasi, and Lucknow. Everything was normal, everything was according to plan, and then the pandemic happened, and it played its nasty role. Things went haywire. The world was not upside-down.
With the lock-down, the events that were originally planned, had to be put on hold. But if one door shuts another one opens. After all what is life without a little hardship? We are winners and whatever the world throws at us, we do not back down! Ergo, three months ago we started The Night Mic on our Instagram page @arz_hai_. So, what do we really do there?
We celebrate words in The Night Mic. We started it with an online open mic, to connect different people from different cities to kindle their passion for poems, story telling, music, narration, and many other creative experiences during the lock-down. We believe everyone is a writer, some choose to pen it down while others carry it in their soul for years. People of different age groups come online to share their creation in the form of music, poems, tiny tale or maybe shayari. We try to discover and laud creativity by presenting it to a large audience online, without any restriction of territory or physical availability. As a matter of fact, there is no restriction on topic or subject, people regardless of their age, sex, race, education, disability or sexual orientation come together every Saturday at night 10:30 pm to participate in this show on Instagram. It is a good time, we believe, when after a long week a person can express their agony or follies without being judged. That’s the beauty of words. It evokes an imaginative awareness of one’s experiences, which in their best possible way reach others who might relate to it and feel that they are not alone. Expression evokes solidarity.
With a similar idea our title sponsor, Wordscloud, started its journey in 2018 in a small office space at Delhi. He has worked with a wide range of clients including international brands from Bangkok. It has branches in The United States of America as well and has helped over 100 clients to promote their work with witty words which not only showcases their excellence in their field but also is a testimony of their varied experience. Wordscloud not only helps in giving a creative touch to businesses but also provides independent writers an opportunity to work as freelancers. The organization provides content in collaboration with independent writers including for services like Website Development, Content Development, Digital marketing, and app development. We joined hands with Wordscloud this winter to make this Christmas not only about celebrations and holidays but about eulogizing the creative person you hide in yourself. Wordscloud and Arz hai, together aim at creating a world where creative minds are encouraged and honed into masters of expression! So, why wait? Join us on our journey and make sure that you are a part of this intense experience!
I started writing with my grandfather and later associated with Arz Hai. I am a law student and my journey as a writer is still juvenile looking to grow younger by days.
